open forum

in order to incite some commenting, i'm going to leave you with an open question:

if you're supporting a candidate in the presidential race this year, who and why? i'm not trying to make anyone feel dumb or anything like that, because i have little opinion either way (read old blogs), but i just want to hear some opinions. read that again. OPINIONS. not debate. i get enough of that in my political science classes. just tell me what YOU think. why do you like obama? is it because he's a great orator, or do you actually think his policies are advantageous to you and your kin? if you support mccain, why? is it his feel-good story and his hot runningmate, or do you feel this he's the right guy to lead the country for the next 4-8 years?

ready, go.

Can people share opinions without debating? Isn't a debate just people arguing about their opinions. People get upset when their opinions are challenged, or proven false. Nevertheless, here are mine:

Obama. Love him. Wanna be his friend. I am enthralled by his eloquence. Some try to use that against him for some reason. That's like saying: William Wallace was all talk. Well maybe, but even if he was, his talkings inspired thousands to fight for and win for a cause they believed in. Next, I just think he's a breath of fresh air. We've had sixteen years of Bush and Clinton: let's get some new blood in there (preferably new enough blood that it won't stop running through the candidate's body while in office).

Nobody knows how to be president. John McCain doesn't know how to be president ONE bit more than Obama. Likewise, Obama doesn't know how to be president any more than McCain. (I smell a potential musing teacher post).

Want my honest opinion? Either way this coin falls, I think we'll be better off than we've been in recent years.

Obama for President, Palin for Hot Mom of the year award.

one thing that strikes a chord with me (preferrably a d minor chord...thats for you music majors)is that mccain has been in office for how many yrs(?) and what has he done(?). i watched the rnc last night. i wasnt enthused about voting. he made a comment about teachers and if they weren't good teachers, then he would find them a new job. excuse me? what? you dont say that. i havent kept up politics much lately, or ever for that matter, but what i have watched of obama, i like! can obama and palin team up? she can go to a thrashers game with me.

i am voting for John McCain. I do know that Obama has done a lot of decent things - like voting to end tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas, wanting to hold corporations responsible for pensions, standing against torturing prisoners of war, and stating that science and evolution are not necessarily incompatible with the Christian faith. I also agree that deporting 12 million illegal aliens is impractical and ridiculous. But Obama has also voted "yes" to uphold Roe vs. Wade, "no" to prohibit minors from crossing state lines to get abortions and "no" to notifying parents of minors who have gotten out-of-state abortions. He is too ideological about the potential effectiveness of negotiating with countries and leaders who have no intention of compromise. He endorsed the Illinois handgun ban this year and he wants to stop all efforts to privatize Social Security (which is one of the political issues I support more than any).

McCain isn't perfect either... but choose I must.

(to preface my comment: this might sound completely stupid, and show my incredible ignorance towards politics)

yesterday, i watched this video on oprah winfrey commenting on her show over the years about the christian faith. (type in "oprah winfrey religion" and you can watch it too.) anyway, i watched as she said things like 'there is more than one way to heaven', and 'jesus coming to the earth wasn't about him dying on the cross, it was about him showing the 'chrisitian conciousness'...whatever that means. i must live in a bubble, and some might be familiar with her beliefs in the field of christianity...but i didn't know she had made such comments. the worst part is...at the end of it all, she called herself a christian. it made me so sick. she is leading thousands of people away from the truth and i am just devestated. the point is...i saw on t.v. her standing with baraq obama, i guess at the convention, and the thought ran through my head that i absolutely don't want to support anything that she does. and yes, i recognize that baraq's ideas about the christian faith probably aren't the same as oprah's...but i just couldn't help but be so effected by what i saw. at any case, i don't think it matters who gets the presidency, our nation is in trouble. our nation is spiritually sick and i think that is the root of all these other problems.

sorry for the long post. i particularly enjoyed the d minor chord.

i think trying to figure out who to vote for is a useless journey of "missing the point." chand, you know i dont care but for the sake of the comment here: people are seeking to vote for someone who will make things better for this country - why are we so self focused? no one person will make things better for this country, especially not the president. what will make things better for this country is the CHURCH who thinks globally and not nationally. to focus on this person or that person is taking focus off of CHRIST who is the ONLY HOPE, the ONLY SAVIOR, the ONLY SOURCE FOR CHANGE, the ONLY SOURCE FOR BETTER. believers, followers of CHRIST, we live in the world not of the world. let us not focus on the world but on CHRIST and His example to us of how to live in this world.

Aber auch wenn Sie nicht an diesen Problemen leiden, konnte es eine gute Idee sein, einmal Viagra auszuprobieren.
